Belen Escobedoplays rare and beautiful fiddle tunes in the South Texas Tejano (Texas-Mexican) tradition.
Belen has preserved a unique style of fiddling that has all but disappeared from the Texas borderlands.
Belen Escobedo has a vast and unique repertoire, including tunes she learned from her grandfather’s whistling, along with a unmatched range of music from both sides of the border.
Belen has twice been a featured master artist at the prestigious Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Washington.
Belen has performed at the National Folk Festival, the Richmond Folk Festival, Lowell Folk Festival, Montana Folk Festival, Rancho Alegre Festival,the Country Music Hall of Fame, Polkapocalypse Festival, Ashokan Center, Esperanza Peace Center, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center,Texas Folklife, the Sugar Maple Festival, Fiddle Hell, and numerous other events, universities, dances, and festivals across Texas and around the country.
In addition to playing concerts and dances, Belen also teaches workshopson all aspects of Tejano fiddle styles and techniques. She has recorded on 100s of albums as a mariachi fiddler and has solo releases on Spring Fed Records and Zarza Records. Belen has a new album coming out in 2026.
Belen also recorded original and traditional music for the award winning film “Truly Texas Mexican,” which won “Best Documentary” at the New York Independent Cinema Awards and “Audience Choice Award” at the Hill Country Film Festival.
